Inspired by Silent Spring:
“How could intelligent beings seek to control a few unwanted species by a method that contaminated the entire environment and brought the threat of disease and death even to their own kind?”
― Rachel Carson, Silent Spring
This game is a commination of the art of game design/pixel art; as it is all an original work, and the science behind the novel Silent Spring. I decided to make this game to show the abruptness of the destruction that the pesticides created for the environment. In the game you play as a robin and collect caterpillars as white particles fall from the sky. The white particles are pesticides and, as stated in the book, after the robin eats a lethal dose of 12 caterpillars the robin dies and a duster plane flies over head congratulating the player on killing all the bugs. This congratulations is not genuine as killing the bugs meant killing the robin as well. The player can also never get past 12 caterpillars to show how us as a whole cannot move forward in innovation by using temporary solutions that end up stunting progress.
